Irina Laskin

I have always been attracted to vibrant colours, textures, and unconventional imagery. Experimenting with different techniques helps me express my love of colour and passion for painting.

I was born and raised in Ukraine, and I began painting at a very young age. My passion for the arts led me to graduate from Kharkov State Technical University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Studying Architecture and Art allowed me to get involved with renowned galleries in Kharkov and Kiev.

In 1999 I moved with my family to Toronto, where I work as an architect and artist.

My work has been published in a number of magazines and publications, and is on display in private collections worldwide.

I have never interested in simply replicating nature - cameras exist to duplicate what we see.

As a designer, I am more far more drawn to reinterpreting reality, transforming what already exists through my own vision and perspective.

I strive not to copy the world, but to create a new interpretation of it - exploring unexpected forms, experimenting with techniques, combining the seemingly incompatible, and discovering new meaning with the familiar.constant exploration is my natural state. New methods, new visual languages, new expressive solutions - these are the tools that allow an image to move beyond refection and become a story of its own.
